Cooking Up Memories at Rungfah Farm Stay 🌿🍴
As a digital nomad, I’m always looking for unique experiences that allow me to immerse myself in the local culture of the places I visit. So, when my friend Yu invited me to his Thai jungle cooking class at Rungfah Farm Stay, I jumped at the opportunity to explore the lush Thai jungle and create a mouthwatering feast from scratch!
A Farm Stay Oasis
Rungfah Farm Stay is a hidden gem nestled in the Thai jungle and makes for a perfect off-the-beaten-path adventure spot. Surrounded by verdant landscapes, the farm offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Khao Sok’s village and other more frequented tourist spots. The moment we stepped onto the farm, we received a warm welcome from Yu’s lovely family as we took a moment to take in the beautiful views.
What sets this experience apart is Yu’s focus on organic farming and sustainable living. From their bamboo huts to naturally growing their ingredients, he truly cares. I recommend an overnight trip where you can have enough time to explore the nearby swimming hole and limestone cliff formations, hang out, and enjoy the views.
Harvesting Fresh Ingredients
Our day began with a visit to Yu’s sprawling organic garden. Here, set out with baskets in hand, ready to collect the freshest ingredients for our cooking escapade. There’s something incredibly gratifying about plucking vibrant vegetables and aromatic herbs straight from the earth. The immersive experience of harvesting ingredients brings the farm-to-table experience to a more personal level.
Cooking Up a Storm
Equipped with our garden-fresh produce, our group went to the rustic outdoor kitchen. Under Yu’s guidance, we delved into the art of Thai cooking.
From mastering the delicate balance of flavors to perfecting the art of Thai curry, every step was a captivating lesson in culinary culture. We all took turns working on shredding our coconut for our milk; we had a lot of laughs during this! We also learned how to cook rice inside of bamboo over a fire.
A Culinary Triumph From Garden to Plate
Our anticipation grew as the aromas of simmering curry and our sizzling banana flower tempura filled the air. Our efforts culminated with a feast fit for royalty – fragrant jasmine rice, vibrant red curries, zesty stir-fried veggies, and more. Every bite transported us to the heart of Thai cuisine, a harmonious blend of sweet, sour, spicy, and savory.
The satisfaction of savoring a meal we had crafted from scratch was genuinely unforgettable.
As we gathered around the beautifully set table, our senses were treated to a symphony of colors, textures, and flavors.
Teknomadics Rated 😍🍲🍚ARROY!😋
The word “arroy,” which means “delicious” in Thai, echoed through the jungle as we indulged in the fruits of our labor. It was more than a meal; it was a celebration of Thai tradition and jungle cooking methods, friendship, and the magic of nature.
Jungle Walk to Swimming Hole
After our meal, we decided to venture with Yu into the jungle on a small hike nearby to find the local swimming hole and check out the limestone cliffs. Along the way, we saw birds, heard monkeys, and many beautiful butterflies. Yu also pointed out some medicinal herbs and other interesting plants.
